Surrey
Because of its proximity to London, Surrey has many popular commuter towns and villages, and is one of the most affluent areas in the UK. It is one of England's smallest counties yet it has one of the highest populations. It is however by no means overcrowded and overdeveloped and is still largely rural. With the characteristic rolling hills of the North Downs, picture postcard country villages and large areas of woodland, it is surely one of England's most beautiful counties.
Bounded by Berkshire to the north, by Hampshire to the west, by West Sussex to the south and by Greater-London and Kent to the east, the county of Surrey covers an area of approximately 1,700 square kilometres (roughly 650 square miles). It has a population of approximately 1,000,000 inhabitants and its main towns comprise the city of Guilford, Woking, Ewell, Farnham and Camberley.
The diverse landscape, which includes rolling chalk downs, ancient woodlands, flower-rich grasslands and acid heaths, is one of the best places for walking in South East England.
